Bronzewing is the pseudonym of Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Rohan Long (The Cambrian Explosion). Fatherhood compelled Long to swap the noisy guitar for the more unobtrusive laptop and spurred on an exploration of electronic music inspired by seventies and eighties soundtracks and library records.

This new direction has resulted in an 11 track album, Aurora Australis - a synth-lead exploration of the Australian environment incorporating elements of guitar, soprano sax and oud. Throughout the album there is a presence of native birdsong, frogs and insects, all recorded in the wild by the artist at various locations in Victoria and Queensland. On Fanfare For A Robin, Long composed an original piece to be performed by the Federation Handbells – an automated carillon instrument in Melbourne which is remotely programmed.

“[I]nteresting use of retro electronica sounds with the sensibilities of early Vangelis soundtracks. The field recordings give the whole thing a wonderful sense of being in some old Australian film from the eighties.” – Nick Moody, lead singer of Brontotheremin
